A new year and new fun!
North Melbourne (Czech House)
07 Jan 2010
Hope you have had a splendid festive season and a good break and... most importantly.... are gearing back up for some super swing dancing!!
We've had a good rest (Kim is still technically having one) but we are ready to get back into it all and teach you some more cool stuff.... in the words of the great song "Summer's here and the time is right for dancing in the street"!
What you can expect this week:
We are going to teach the 8 beat footwork. This will become the basic for your lindy hop dancing later on and is the stuff you often see the more advanced dancers doing. We'll be going through some simple showy moves so you can start practising your "8 beat". We always assume no knowledge in this class, so bring some comfy shoes and give it a go!
We'll be going over the basics of Corridor Charleston before showing you several ways (some easier, some slightly less easy) that you can use Corridor Charleston to transition to other Charleston moves and positions. This will a great class for those leads wanting to know how you actually get from one stance/rhythm position to another quickly and smoothly. It will also be excellent practice for follows, as we often get used to a set sequence or pattern of moves and this variety of transitions will definitely assist you in breaking those habits! We do assume some prior knowledge this week of the 1940s Charleston rhythms.
It's girls night, as the smokin' Loz Yee and Monica McNab will be "on the decks" spinning some swing tunes this week!! Come down and have a dance - it's one of the few venues you can do it so early in the new year!
We look forward to having you all back for some summer schoolin'!
See you Thursday night.
Em and Kim
