16 Mar 2010
On with the Kew swing puns!!
Thanks for a fun night of classes this week folks. We love your energy and look forward to seeing you again next week.
We'll be dancing at the Camberwell Market this SUNDAY 14th March at 11am so pop along for a mid-morning swingout if you're so inclined.
Class re-cap - Tuesday 9th March
Level 1 - 6.30pm
- Charleston basic side-by-side
- jig walks with big kick (paddle in, paddle out, paddle in and hold)
- jig walks with a run, run, jump on the end with mess around/boogie
Level 2 - 7.30pm
- General 8-beat technique: consistent pulse and speed throughout your dancing, don't rush through the basic, focus on your lines
- Texas Tommy Joel Style = arm wraps on count 4, low to high, very relaxed
- Texas Tommy with girls extra spin
- Texas tommy with boys sneaky spin
Level 3 - 8.30pm
- Charleston/6-beat sequence
- Tuck turn with elbow catch into double banana peel
- catch and finish off Charleston
- Turn on 5 with hit/land on 7
- side rock step charleston, then basic charleston
- Turn on 5 into corridors X 3
- dynamic catch move out/in on 5,6,7
Pointers -
- for extra dynamic elongate the tuck turn and really absorb the elbow catch for stretch
- When hitting the turn on 5 with down on 7, do so sharply and strongly for emphasis and effect
- Keep charleston pulse throughout for balance and timing.
We want to see more people dancing at Kew so spread the word and bring a buddy next week!!
Catch ya on the dance floor
