Stepping up and swinging out!

What a brilliant start to the year!  We started out laying down a challenge to each class that we were going to raise the bar in 2010..push ourselves farther and open our eyes to the incredible possibilities of this dance we love.

And we have loved the response across all levels with students really stretching themselves and embracing the successes and the mistakes!  Someone once said about lindy hop that “there are no mistakes..only new moves!”

Remember 2 big events coming up:

***FLYING FUN IN THE PARK***  Sunday March 28^th

Shob and Andy will teach a fun beginners aerial class in the park….followed by a big picnic with games, muffins and all possible shenanigans!  More details TBA but keep the date free!

***MEET THE SCENE BALL *** Saturday May 15^th

Our aim is to have you all happily social dancing in time for this great event..only 2 months to go!  Will have great music, outfits, performances and a beginner-friendly dance floor.  Put it in your calendar now!

This week’s class line-up is:           

Level 1 Beginners at 6:30 pm –Hand to Hand charleston into Tandem

This class is open to all..you can start anytime..and it will give you great swing dancing foundations.  Bring a friend or workmate, make some friends and have a ball!

This week is a great transition class, from the Hand to Hand charleston into Tandem.  Knowing these transitions is essential to get you ready for social dancing at the ball so make sure you come along.

Level 2 at 7:30 pm –Foot work variations that are lead/follow

We have worked hard on our footwork in the last few weeks..but how do you lead or follow fancy footwork variations?  Unlocking the key to this technique can make any social dance look like a routine and amazes onlookers.  Its also such a buzz when it works on the social dance floor!

 

Level 3 at 8:30 pm –  Lindy to charleston and back

Now that we’re swinging out fast, we are in a great position to explore adding charleston to our lindy hop.  This can be a tricky topic and we have lots of material to get through so we may run this over the next 2 to 3 weeks. Something every intermediate dancer needs to know!

Social Dancing

Social dancing at North Melbourne is a unique experience with a cool atmosphere, fun dancers, and two DJs every week.  It’s $6 dollars at the door and goes from 9:30 pm til midnight.  If you take the classes, social dancing is free.  Enjoy the big, beautiful dance floor, air conditioning, and the fantastic, friendly (and slightly crazy) North Melbourne crew.  All welcome!
