A big to the amazing Frankston swing crew!
Although summer classes started last week we'd like to take this first newsletter of the year as a chance to welcome you all back! We're looking forward to a great year of dancing, fun and laughs. This year is set to be Frankston's biggest ever so watch this space for upcoming new events and changes to our fantastic venue!
In our first week back, Level 1 refreshed the basic step of side by side charleston and then added some stylish circle work. It was really great to see people's individual style shine through! Our summer special all-in class started the exciting roller coaster ride that is the Big Apple. Everyone did an amazing job and clapped with perfect synchronicity like never before! Well done Big Apple dancers!
Frankston Waterfront Festival - This is a great event down on the foreshore just near where we have classes. There is music and entertainment, rides and games, as well as fireworks displays, the sandcastle sculpting and much much more. Frankston Swing Patrol will be doing demonstrations and running a free mini-lesson on both days...
Saturday 14 January 6-7pm - Challenge Arena
Sunday 15 January 3-4pm - Challenge Arena
We'd love for you to come down and join in the fun! If you're new to the scene then come and join in the free lesson and enjoy the performances by the others. If you are a keen social dancer, come along and show off your style during the social dancing. Or if you know one of our routines (Lavender Coffin, Garbage Man) or the shim sham then slip on your dancing shoes, slop on some sunscreen, and slap on your best dancing outfit and we'll bust a move Frankston style.
For general info on the festival check out the link to the official website...
Saturday 21st January - Geoff Power at Clayton RSL
Frankston Waterfront Festival
January 14th and 15th
(See above for more info)
Mordialloc Food, Wine and Music Festival
Saturday 17th of March
LEVEL 1 - 7pm
Level 1 is running as per usual over the summer. We're looking at the crazy side by side charleston again this week. As always we'll cover the basics so new dancers can start any time! Level 1 is always heaps of fun so hop on down to the yacht club and join in!
ALL IN CLASS
For those who missed it last week, the all in class is learning the Big Apple. It is a fantastic solo routine from the swing era which is still danced across the globe. It's a really great, fun routine and an essential for those looking to join in the madness of social group dancing! Last week we got up to the "Spank the Baby" move (you'll know it when you see it). Check out the link below for some inspiration...
The Big Apple
