Blues dancing is the one of Melbourne’s great passions. It’s a slower, grounded dance that will have you moving to the music and exploring partner connection in a new exhilarating way.

Whatever your level of Blues dancing experience, Swing Patrol has something for you.

Total beginner
Level 1 Blues class
Sundays, 7.30 – 8.30pm
Sunday Blues Night – Exford Hotel, 199 Russell St, Melbourne
If you’ve never danced Blues before, or only briefly dipped your toe in these delicious waters, drop in any Sunday night for a Level 1 Blues class at our regular Blues venue. We’ll get you dancing to an entire song in just one hour.

Level 2/3 Blues class
Sundays, 6.30 – 7.30pm
Sunday Blues Night – Exford Hotel, 199 Russell St, Melbourne
You’ve mastered the basics and you’re ready for more moves and technique, so drop in any Sunday night for a Level 2/3 Blues class at our regular Blues venue. Classes have something for all students at Level 2 – Level 3 who just want more and more.

Level 4 – Nerd Out
5.00 – 6.30pm on the last Sunday of the month
Sunday Blues Night – Exford Hotel, 199 Russell St, Melbourne
You’re a self-confessed lover of Blues dancing. You’ve been dancing as often and as much as you can for ages, probably travelling all over to workshop and exchanges. You LOVE to explore the nitty gritty and geek out about the finer details of connection to your partner and the music. This is 90 minutes you won’t want to miss.

Practice Time for everyone
Special blues practise sessions!
Sundays 6th and 13th August, 5.00 – 6.30pm

Cost: $3
Bring yourself, a dance partner if you want to practise with someone, and some ideas for what you want to practise. We’ll provide music – a range of blues and slow swing – and you are most welcome to play music you would like to practise to also (chat to Kara or Vanessa about this when you get there). We have chosen these dates specifically to give you a good chance to practise for AJC – so please do get amongst it and jump into the blues/slow swing division!

Social Dancing for everyone
Sundays, 8.30pm til late
Sunday Blues Night – Exford Hotel, 199 Russell St, Melbourne
The best way to progress in this social dance is to, ahem, social dance. Experience the delights of Blues dancing and creative with the music in a cool, social environment in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD.
Enjoy FREE social dancing to the best of Blues music by great local DJs.

Australian Jitterbug Championships
Saturday 19 August
Collingwood Town Hall – 140 Hoddle St, Abbotsford
Blues dancers get to strut their stuff on the competition floor at this year’s AJC, in the Blues/Slow Swing division. All-skate heats in the afternoon, finals at the evening AJC Ball, where couples will shine in spotlight dances highlighting partner connection, improvisation and body movement.

Swing Patrol Blues Night will perform a Blues dance routine at the Swing Patrol Performance Ball (Sat 7 Oct.) To be part of this performance, join in the special Performance Routine Class.
Sundays 3, 10, 17 & 24 September and 1 October
5.00 – 6.30pm
Cost: $22 cash per session (or 1.5 circles on your Class Discount Card)
An all-levels routine, with solo and partnered content, suitable for everyone, from newer Blues dancers and with challenges for intermediate and advanced Blues dancers. A great way to focus your learning of Blues dancing, and have heaps of fun preparing to hit the floor and be a star on the big night.
