JACK & JILL F.A.Q.
Q: What’s a Jack & Jill competition?
A: A Jack & Jill competition randomly pairs up leaders and followers. Each couple dances and is judged on their ability to lead or follow and how they interpret the music.
Check out this video to give you an idea! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mumb54PdsEc

Q: How do I enter?
A: By attending 2 classes on 2 separate Tuesdays at South Melbourne in one calendar month, you will be eligible to enter.

Q: Do I need to enter with a partner?
A: No. You enter as an individual.

Q: How long do I have to dance for in the competition?
A: To keep the competition very short, each couple will dance for around 40 seconds. Easy!

Q: What style of dancing must I do?
A: You can do any combination of 6 beat or 8 beat Lindy Hop, Charleston, Balboa, Blues or Collegiate Shag. No aerials are allowed.

Q: Should I practice a routine?
A: No, that’s not what a Jack & Jill competition is about. It’s a test of the ability to lead or follow. We encourage you to social dance as much as you can. It’s the best way to practice.

Q: What is a spotlight?
A: A spotlight or shine is where

Q: What is an all skate?
A: An all skate is where all couples dance at the same time

Q: Will entering this Jack & Jill disqualify me from competing in the ‘Like a Virgin’ section of other competitions?
A: No. Pockets’ Jack & Jill is friendly, informal competition and does not disqualify you from entering the Like a Virgin sections of Swing Patrol competition events (i.e AJC, MLB or SJC) It’s great practice for it though! Thinking of entering? Please see our full terms conditions below.
