Meet the Scene Ball 2011

This ball is always the highlight of the year and a great opportunity to meet everyone involved in other Swing Patrol classes and the Melbourne scene. Although per bookings are now closed there are plenty of tix on the door! See you there.

We have a fabulous band in store and many strolls / games to keep you entertained - the Shim Sham, Jitterbug Stroll and Big Apple.... be sure to jump in!

This ball is the most loved event on our calendar and is dedicated to all our newer dancers.  This is the night when all our dancers come together and welcome you to the Melbourne SP Swing Community.

Everyone who has been before, knows the nerves and anticipation of a first ball. Just relax, take a chill pill and have a great time on the night.  If you’re worried that you do not know many people, remember everyone is in this situation.  With so many new people in the scene, even the dancers of old do not know many people. It's  a great opportunity to meet new like-minded swing lovers.

The Meet the Scene Ball is affectionately known as The Beginners Ball as it’s the night the whole scene comes out to play to welcome everyone new to swing dancing since last Christmas.

Peninsula PINK Frankston
Eastern PURPLE Richmond (Fun Pit, Bal Pit & Blues), Camberwell & Ringwood
Bayside GREEN Middle Park & St Kilda

Longshot Photo
Dance photographer, Michael Long, will be capturing dancers in action at the Swing Patrol “Meet the Scene” Ball on 14th May 2011. Many of you may remember Michael photographing previous Swing Patrol events including the “Swing Out Before Christmas” in December and the Performance Ball in October last year. Michael has been a photographer for 20 years and has a strong dance background himself including having been a professional ballet dancer and several forms of partner dancing. This combination of professional dancing and photography experience gives Michael a unique ability to capture dancers at their best which stand out in his photos. If you haven’t already, check out Michael’s website with a dedicated Swing Patrol gallery where you can view and order previous Swing Patrol photos at: www.longshotphoto.net

7.  Meet the Scene Ball - FAQ
a. Information for Ticket Holders!
If you’ve been super organised and pre-paid your ticket to the ball… well done.  You’re going to have a ball… literally!  Remember, there are no paper tickets for you to collect.

Instead, your name will be on a special door list.
Just walk in, say hi to our friendly door peeps and they will cross you off the pre-paid list before you enter the ball.  If you have booked your tickets in a group, then your tickets will be under the name of the person who booked/paid for them. Please make sure you know what name your ticket will be under before you turn up, just to avoid any confusion at the door.
Note that pre-paid entry does not guarantee a seat or place at a table; it is simply an entry payment.

b. Table Seating
There will be some tables around the venue but these are not reserved or regarded as permanent seating for anyone throughout the night. They are used to help orientate you to colours and areas in the room where your class colleagues will be, and from there you can dance, grab a chair when you’re resting. Better still. Get back onto the dance floor!!

c. What Do I Wear?
Many will have planned and made this decision already, but if you need tips the number one thing is to have comfy shoes to dance in.  Many will be dressed up for the night and we encourage this. Swirly skirts, flip dresses, zoot suits, baggy pants, braces and even maybe the odd fedora hat and an original vintage item might be seen on the night. There will also be lots of people not so dressed up wearing contemporary smart casual clothing. Beware of sore feet the next day..many of those who have done this before bring a change of clothes for later in the night or the after party.

8.  Who's Playing?
Andy Swann's Swing Combo will be playing for your dancing pleasure. There will also be various Melbourne DJ’s will be playing great music until your feet give up.
