The sun rises on 2010 6 January 2010
The 2010 swing year is gradually warming up with the return of classes for our lightly swinging and swaying "Summer School" programme. Most classes will resume in February or March and some venues have yet to be finalised with New Year changes and renovations currently taking place. The outdoor summer gigs are about to commence so check the listing on the website, pack a picnic and come and hear some music outside! Registration is now open for Blues Before Sunrise
which will be held in March. BBS is a magical weekend of inspiring
workshops with passionate teachers and loads of social dancing to
amazing musicians and DJs. Swing Kids and Showgirls are on their way back and the first Funpit will be on January 15th with an all girl DJ line up. Our
apologies for the website being a bit weird. Carl, the Mastermind
Webmaster, is onto the oddness and we think it’s resolved. But with the
gremlins at work, who knows? INDEX |

![]() Have you ever dreamed of being a Las Vegas show girl? Or a chorus line dancer on Broadway in New York? Or a samba queen in Rio? **TWO DREAMY VENUES***
Showgirls Dream is BACK after 12 month holiday and she is looking very fine!
If you would like to add a little sparkle to your step, learn how to spin, kick, leap or shimmy AND have an enormous amount of fun, then Showgirls Dream is for you! Taught by the fabulously talented, Jo Collins, you’ll leave every class with a dazzling smile! If you have not tried it before, come to the Level 1 classes where you’ll learn general dance technique and get a glimmer of being a showgirl dancing the can-can, a hoofing Broadway chorus member, or a spangled high kicking Las Vegas girl. This will be a skill building class, starting from the beginning to explore and develop your technique, skills and style. If you have done level 1, level 2 will be challenging with routines, formations and more advanced dance technique. You should be confident with some basics, such as - pointing your toes (Jo's favourite thing in the world!) leg extensions, kicks, single turns - of any kind - and of course, most importantly, come along ready to have some fun! Check out all the details HERE During the summer Swing Patrol gets out and about with public gigs all over town. Click HERE for a list of events and dates. We look forward to seeing you there.

Jazz at Bennetts Lane Yvette Johansson Yvette Johansson brings to life the spirits of great female jazz vocalists past... and then takes them somewhere new. Vocalist Yvette Johansson is a popular and respected figure on the Melbourne scene. Her weekend performances at Bennetts Lane are a platform for her more intimate and spontaneous expressions and her tribute shows: Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, display a mastery of mimicry mixed with amusing research. She is a both a wonderful performer and experienced vocalist, able to enchant, entertain and provide suprising insights into the history of her chosen tunes and their developments through the hands of jazz musicians. Yvette will be joined by Joe Ruberto (piano), Michael Tortoni (bass) and Anthony Baker (drums). Elana
Stone, Sydney's favourite young jazz singer and Frida lookalike is
doing gigs with artists she never expected to be performing alongside.
She has had the great fortune to sing at many wonderful venues around
Sydney with such luminaries as James Muller, Mark Isaacs, Sean Wayland,
Dan Barnett, Jackie Orszaczky, Rai Thistlethwaite (Thirsty Merc), Phil
Stack (Thirsty Merc), Phil Slater, Carl Dewhurst, Brett Hirst and Simon
Barker just to mention a few. And she's at Bennetts Lane very soon. h.
