Amanda Hill
Although she started rather late compared to some, Amanda hasn't looked back since discovering swing.
Music and dancing go hand in hand and so it did in Amanda’s childhood. Competing in a Calisthenics club for 10 years starting at the age of 7 helped a shy girl gain confidence as well as igniting an ongoing wider interest in modern and traditional music, dance and theatre. It was when Amanda caught the jazz bug that she began dragging all her friends to jazz music hot spots around town that make up a small but dedicated and exciting scene. To have one of Australia’s finest jazz stylists, Nichaud Fitzgibbon and her band play at her 21st Birthday was a definite highlight and wonderful memory.
Some time later, when the chance came around to combine some of her favourite things, jazz music, dance and countless opportunities to dress up and perform she welcomed it with open arms. “Swing feels down to earth and natural, but there’s also something stylish and sophisticated about it”. Amanda’s elegant, smooth style of swing is evolving all the time. Swing Patrol, focused on encouraging individualism and putting a limit on the amount of structure in their classes certainly make them relaxed and fun. Anyone you ask will tell you it’s all about having a good time.
Amanda is a keen Brat Pack troupe member, a Showgirl’s member and fan, she can't get enough of that dance called Balboa and is absolutely thrilled to be teaching Swing Kids.
