Lauren Yee
Born and bred Geelong style, Loz Yee has been teaching since 2005 when she started as a cadet in Geelong, before moving to Melbourne a few years later! Since learning her first dance routine to Peter Andre’s hit “Funky Junky”, Loz has spent the last 15 years dabbling in jazz, funk, tap and more recently, swing and jazz dances, and has developed a love for performing along the way.
In early 2003, Loz was hankering for something new. She discovered the change she had been searching for when her twin brother, Kieran, told her about the swing dancing lessons he had just started attending in Geelong with Nigel and Shaz. Nearly eight years later, Loz and Kieran are both still dancing, and, having become cadets in the same year, have been sharing their love of swing dancing with students from Geelong and Melbourne for the past five years!
Loz has been a member of Swing Patrol’s performance troupes, Brat Pack, in 2004, Scat Pack in October 2005, and is a current member of Echoes of Harlem, which was founded in 2008. A recent troupe highlight was being part of Swing Patrol’s first full length show in November 2009, “The Rhythm Review”, where she got to choreograph, dance and perform next to her peers and best friends.
And though there have been many amazing experiences since taking her first rock step, Loz’s absolute “oh my god” moments were in New York in May 2009 where she had the opportunity to attend Frankie Manning’s 95th Birthday celebrations just weeks after he passed away. From squealing with excitement at the Savoy Ballroom plaque in Harlem with her brother and a bunch of Argentinean dancers she’d just met, to watching two priests swing dance in the pulpit at Frankie’s memorial, the festival was a true and joyful celebration of Frankie Manning and the dance he loved so much, and is something Loz will never forget.
Loz loves busting a groove, whether it be getting funky to RnB or her beloved ‘Cat Empire’, solo Charleston-ing it up, or swingin’ out to the big band beats! Loz also happens to be an Australian Jitterbug “Silly Dance” Champion, so you know if you dance with Loz it’s going to be full of fun, laughter, and silliness.
Yes, Please!
