Swing Patrol & COVID-19: March Update

by swingadmin on 16th March 2021

It’s our Coronaversary. One year since the last Swing Patrol in-person class.

We can finally announce the return of classes … albeit a slow roll out, not all venues, and things will look different than in the Before Times.

Swing Patrol Yarraville reopens Thursday 8 April – fortnightly Level 1 classes, online pre-bookings essential, and we must restrict registrations to Pair Passes only, so as to keep the Lead:Follow ratio workable for partner dancing.

Swing Patrol Hawthorn reopens Monday 12 April – Level 2 classes weekly through April, before resuming Level 1 in May. Online pre-bookings essential, strictly limited numbers, and we must restrict registrations to Pair Passes only, so as to keep the Lead:Follow ratio workable for partner dancing.

More details available on the venue web pages, including booking links.

Why not more venues? Much has changed in the last 12 months. Some locations are unavailable to us due to current density restrictions, some have been relinquished to hirers who could use the space for activities other than partner dancing. Some members of the teaching team have moved on, either out of the state or into another phase in their lives, and are unable to return to their old venues. With “unstructured” recreational partner dancing still a no-go, venues with a strong focus on social dancing are not yet ready to resume. But rest assured we are working toward opening more venues in due course, and planning workshops in various locations, aimed at different levels of experience, so stay tuned for more announcements if the current timetable doesn’t suit.
