Swing Patrol & COVID-19: January Update

by swingadmin on 7th January 2022

Welcome to 2022 – with a few spanners and curve balls already. As always, Swing Patrol continues to monitor current government guidelines and community sentiment, as we try to make plans for our dance classes and events. With the return of density limits and the clear message that dancefloors are discouraged, it is not yet time to re-open our dance classes.

We hope to resume in-person classes at venues that were able to operate earlier in 2021 – initially at Melbourne CBD, followed by Hawthorn, Oakleigh and Yarraville – with a view to re-opening in February/March. We also hope to kick off an inner north venue (Brunnie?) and to bring back our Balboa & Collegiate Shag classes in some form.

We’ll also be scheduling a range of workshops for various levels and areas of interest (including – hopefully soon – the very popular Back To Blues workshop deferred from June.) Social dancing and events? These will likely start on a smaller, “local” scale, and we can expect social dancing in conjunction with some of our class venues. But we are looking at options for at least one “big event” later in 2022.

Sales of Class Discount Cards and Gift Vouchers are currently on hold until Swing Patrol can confidently re-open classes and workshops more fully and accessibly, and until we feel we can deliver what people expect when they buy cards and vouchers. Note that all existing Swing Patrol Class Cards and Vouchers with expiry dates between 14 March 2020 and 25 April 2021 will continue to be honoured when classes re-open.

In compliance with the directions of the Victorian Government, for the protection of our community and to adhere to the requirements of the venues we hire, all attendees at Swing Patrol classes and dance activities will need to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, or have an authorised medical exemption. This precaution will remain in place at least as long as the government mandate continues regarding the “vaccinated economy”.

CASHLESS payment only. Pay by credit/EFTPOS card at the door. Swing Patrol Class Discount Cards purchased prior to Covid shutdown are also valid. We plan to operate on a drop-in basis, with no bookings required, but should density limits persist, we may have to implement online pre-booking in order to manage capacity. We will change partners throughout the class, though, of course, if you come with a partner and choose not to change, we’ll manage the class accordingly. CovidSafe measures remain in place: DO NOT come to class if you are unwell, if experiencing any Covid symptoms, if you are awaiting Covid test results, if you have been in contact with a positive Covid case or have recently been at an identified exposure site. QR code check-in is mandatory, and hand hygiene continues.

Further announcements about our re-opening plans will be made here on the website, on the Swing Patrol Melbourne Facebook page, and in our eNewsletter.
