Two wonderful vintage swing dances – Balboa and Collegiate Shag – come together in one venue.
This is your one-stop shop for Balboa and Shag learning, for beginners and experienced dancers, across two floors, in the inner-city hot spot of Fitzroy.
- * Never danced before? – try either of both of our Level 1 beginner classes.
- * Experienced in one style and wanting to learn the other? We got you covered with various level options across the night.
- * Just focusing on one style? All good – take a class, enjoy some social dancing … pop out in between for a drink or bite to eat at one of the plethora of local cafes, restaurants and bars in and around Smith and Brunswick Streets.
6.30pm: Level 1 Collegiate Shag (upstairs)
Drop in any week, all welcome! No partner required. No experience necessary! Learn the basics of Collegiate Shag, and be dancing it smoothly in no time.
7.30pm: Level 2 Balboa (upstairs)
Intermediate + beyond
This is the next step in your Balboa journey. Once you have the fundamentals under your belt, you’re ready for more! We’ll focus on refining technique, exciting moves and styling, social dancing skills.
8.30pm: Level 1 Balboa (upstairs)
Drop in any week, all welcome! No experience with Balboa – or indeed, any dancing – necessary! This class is aimed at total beginners or anyone looking to work on their basic Balboa technique. You don’t need to bring a partner as we will change partners throughout the class. Just turn up and we’ll take care of the rest.
8.30pm: Level 2 Collegiate Shag (downstairs)
Intermediate + beyond
All intermediate Shag dancers are welcome to this drop-in class. We assume you know the basics, and here we’ll explore even MORE style, technique, footwork and all the great things about this dance.
9.30pm – 10.30pm: Social Dancing (downstairs)
The best way to improve your dancing is to get on the floor and try things out! Use this time to consolidate, practice what you’ve learned, and enjoy the magic that is dancing with a partner.
